A child is God’s precious blessing to the world. As a Catholic School educator, I have had the honor and privilege of being a part of children’s academic and spiritual journeys. The following quote by Benjamin Franklin best resonates with my teaching philosophy in the classroom.

“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn. “

Dear K2 Students and Families,

Can you believe we have been in school for 39 days?  We are past the half way point for the first Trimester!  The time seems to have flown by! The students in K2 have already grown in so many ways.  God has certainly blessed our classroom with creative, bright and amazing students!  Thank you all for entrusting Aquinas with your most precious children this year.

I am very pleased with the academic progress of the class.  We have begun to hit our stride with the commencement of reading groups and we are READING!!!!!  You will soon be getting weekly blending sheets and word lists home in Tuesday Folders ( upon completion of letters C,O,G,A,D).  These important practice tools are made up of letters I have taught and that all students should be able to read.  There are bimonthly assessments on both the blending charts as well as the word lists.

I plan to hold a Parent Reading Workshop in November.  I will soon announce the date in my weekly newsletter.  During this workshop I will demonstrate the methods and strategies we use in class to help students emerge as readers or become stronger readers.    Research has shown that consistency in how students practice between home and school helps them become more efficient readers.  I will also be discussing the early writing process as well!  Students have already been busy in their journals.

Please know communication is extremely important to me!  We are partners in your child’s academic journey!

Blessings to you and your family,

Mrs. Wehner
