A child is God’s precious blessing to the world. As a Catholic School educator, I have had the honor and privilege of being a part of children’s academic and spiritual journeys. The following quote by Benjamin Franklin best resonates with my teaching philosophy in the classroom.

“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn. “

Happy summer K1 students and parents!

We had a fantastic Kindergarten year and I am so very proud of the progress all my students made.  Children are so amazing and resilient!  K1 adapted quickly to the safety measures put into place at Aquinas in order to keep the whole school community safe!  Way to go girls and boys!!!

Did you know that research shows students can lose up to 2 months of academic growth during the summer months if they do not practice the skills they learned?  Research also shows that if a student reinforces the skills learned during the school year a few times each week during the summer they will not only maintain these important concepts but will solidify them even further as they prepare for their next grade level.  It’s SO worth the very small amount of time invested each week during the summer to feel confident and ready come September!

SO….Students….PLEASE keep READING and WRITING!!!!!  Read books that interest you and keep a journal about your summer adventures!  Read signs outside when you are in the car and write your out of town relatives a letter!!!!  Just keep reading and writing….I believe in YOU!!!

Parents-I am including the on-line links (buttons to the left in blue) to some of the academic sites used in Kindergarten.  The subscriptions should be valid through the summer. Student’s usernames and passwords remain the same during the summer as they were in the school year.  I sent an additional copy of student’s usernames and passwords home in their last Tuesday Folder for your/their easy reference.  If you allow your child limited IPAD time during the summer you may want to consider using these sites as they keep learning fun!

Parents- THANK YOU for sharing your amazing children with me this year!  I feel so blessed to have been their teacher and a part of their academic journey at Aquinas.

At the end of each day K1 prays the following prayer together as a class and it seems fitting to close the school year the same way…

May the Christ in you reach out to those you meet.  May God bless you and keep you in His hands.  Amen.

K1 you will remain in my daily prayers always!  Have a safe and FUN summer!!!!

God bless ,

Mrs. Wehner
