Following are select opportunities by season. Check back, this page is updated regularly.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Assist with serving hot lunch. Must be Certified/Compliant Volunteers.

Morning Duty volunteers will assist with morning drop off by directing traffic and helping children out of the car. Plan to arrive 15 minutes early for your first shift for a brief training. IMPORTANT – please ensure you arrive on time each morning as you will be an key member of the morning duty crew.

Certified/Compliant Parent Volunteers are needed to serve as after school club moderators.

Volunteers assist parents in selecting and purchasing used uniform items. They also help set up and take down the used uniform sale.

Sign Up to be contacted when opportunities are available.  You will receive an email with specifics when an opportunity arises.  First respondents will be assigned, (ie. if 2 volunteers are needed, the first 2 email responses will be assigned and the task will be closed).

These opportunities will be at-home and do not require Certified/Compliant volunteers.

 

Fall

Adult volunteers will assist student ambassadors as they lead tour groups of visiting families. Suggested talking points will be provided.

Thursday, November 21, 2019 at 6:30pm

Aquinas hosts an informational admissions table at each of our three parishes at each mass on the weekend of November 16th and 17th. Volunteers will interact with parishioners and distribute informational materials. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes ahead of the Mass time you sign up for and remain for 15 minutes after the conclusion of Mass. This allows for interactions with the parishioners as they are both exiting and entering the church. Volunteers do not need to stay with the table during Mass.

 

Friday October 11, 2019 (after noon dismissal)

Help sort our Santa Shop merchandise. Join volunteers in the school hall on Tuesday, September 24. This opportunity requires some lifting of moderately heavy items.

The Book Fair takes place in the school library. There are volunteers opportunities from October 31st through November 8th.

Volunteers are needed to make this day a success!

 

Certified Volunteers are needed to assist with Picture Day. Duties may include escorting students to and from the classroom to the picture location and straightening clothing and/or combing hair.

 

Coaches and Assistant Coaches must be Certified Volunteers, meaning Virtus certification and background check must be current and on file. Each sport also needs team parents and parent volunteers to run the clock and/or flags, please contact Janelle Ferguson if you would like to volunteer to coach. Winter

The Middle School musical will take place on March 27th through 29th at St. John Paul the Great Catholic High School. There are many opportunities to volunteer. Concession donations (listed below) also count toward volunteer hours.

Volunteers are needed to help stuff envelopes for the Car Raffle. This is a great volunteer opportunity for those who work during the week and does not require that volunteers be certified.

The Aquinas Skate Social takes place at the Prince William Ice Center 5180 Dale Blvd, Woodbridge, VA 22193.

Volunteers are needed to assist attendees with picking up the pre-purchased tickets or purchasing tickets at the door.

Judges are needed for the Science Fair. While science expertise is helpful it is not required; judges will be provided with a rubric to assess student projects. Sign up coming soon.

The STARS Auction will take place on February 8th. Volunteer opportunities will be coming soon.

Volunteers are needed to read a story to each class in Grades Pre-k through 5th grade. Information and volunteer sign ups will come from your child’s Room Parent.

Elves are needed! Santa Shop will be held in December and volunteers are needed to support this beloved event. Help us prepare with at home tasks or participate in the actual event.

Sign Up to help put up and decorate the school’s Christmas trees.

 

This Event takes place every December and is a celebration of the miracle at Guadalupe, Mexico.

Assistance is needed in many areas including:

  • Solicitation of food donations from local authentic Latin American restaurants.
  • Donations of authentic Latin American appetizers, cookies, and pastries
  • Assist with the Reception

Spring

Volunteers are needed to assist with the 8th grade awards ceremony and graduation reception.

Our celebration of the culmination of the school year. Volunteers are needed for various events occurring during the day.

Some positions require Certified Volunteers.

 

Aquinas is holding a J Club Book Fair this year. This book fair is a Catholic book fair with wonderful Catholic books for children PK through 8th grade. Parents are needed to take the book fair cart to the classroom and to assist students in filling out their order forms.

Become a Certified/Compliant Volunteer

Certified/Compliant Volunteers have been cleared to work in a volunteer capacity in which they may interact with students. Many volunteer activities require volunteers to be Certified (Compliant) due to the nature of the activity in which the volunteer is in direct contact with students engaged in various activities.

 

 

Certified (Compliant) Volunteers

Certified Volunteers (also known as Compliant) are Virtus trained and have completed a background check completed through the Arlington Diocesan Office of Child Protection (OPCYP).

Certified/Compliant Volunteers must attend a Virtus training session. Pre-registration for Virtus training offered by the Diocese of Arlington at locations throughout the Diocese on multiple dates during the year is required at www.virtus.org.

Certified/Compliant Volunteers must complete an electronic background check. Instructions on how to obtain the electronic background check can be found here.

If you have already attended a Virtus session and/or completed a background check through another Diocese of Arlington entity/organization (religious education, youth ministry etc) please email certified@aquinastars.org and include the following information in your email:

  1. Your name
  2. Date of Birth
  3. Diocesan location(s) where you are/have volunteered
  4.  Diocesan location/date where you attended Virtus training or a copy of your certificate
