St. Thomas Aquinas Regional School follows the Curriculum Guidelines of the Diocese of Arlington Catholic Schools, requirements established by the Commonwealth of Virginia and criteria published by the Virginia Catholic Education Association (VCEA).
The elementary curriculum encompasses all of the sequentially ordered learning experiences which the school provides for its students in grades pre-kindergarten through eighth. The total curriculum includes the development of Catholic values and attitudes, as well as the attainment of knowledge and skills necessary for the students’ spiritual, moral, intellectual, social and physical development. The basic curriculum for all schools in the Diocese includes the following subjects: Religion, Reading, Language Arts, (English, Spelling and Handwriting), Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, Fine Arts (Art, Music, Band), Physical Education, Computer Technology, Library and Foreign Language.
Technology at Aquinas: Aquinas uses a hybrid method which incorporates limited technology along with textbooks and workbooks. Through our Schoology system, students in grade 4 through 8 have access to their grades, assignments, and on occasion may take quizzes and tests through this platform. We are aware of the detrimental impact of screen time and try to limit its use in our school as much as possible.
